Solar power powwow

Advocates for expanding solar power in North Carolina say the state should expand its policies to support solar power production in the state.

Environment North Carolina has a new report out that shows the industry could account for 14 percent of the state’s power generation and create 28,000 jobs. More here.

Sen. Josh Stein was at the Environment NC presser and promoting a series of solar tax law changes:

  • Reinstating the solar energy manufacturing tax credit. That was included in the Senate version of the budget.
  • Allowing solar energy installation tax credit to be assigned. Right now, only a property owner can take advantage of the credit. This would let other sorts of investors take the credit as part of a deal to finance a project.

Below, Stein, solar energy industry folks and Elizabeth Ouzts of Environment North Carolina talk up the report and pose with a solar panel.

"There are no solar spills," said Ouzts.
