The two greatest problems of the Catholic hierarchy?

These are but symptoms of their greatest problem: their system is set up to perpetuate a hide-bound, conservative attitude at the highest levels of their hierarchy. You don't get into the college of cardinals unless you have spent years proving that you will enthusiastically support and defend that traditions of the Catholic world. Progress of any sort can only be made when a major crisis forces it, as we have seen in the case of priestly child rapes. The same has happened in Catholic history in many other areas for centuries. It has hurt the church little by little ever since the Dark Ages. One day, it make be the death of it. but only when the whole world finally accepts the fact that unthinking support of tradition is a "good" thing.
