Hmm.. God allows His innocent Son to be executed in the name of others, showing us that He is the ultimate arbiter of guilt and innocence. God decrees the death penalty for certain crimes.. what faith exactly is it that causes you to be against the death penalty? If you believe in God's justice, then those executed wrongly will meet their just rewards. If you are parsing out God's words to buttress your doubts of God's Mercy and Justice, then you need to be truthful about what it is that drives your resistance to His will.

Um... did you ever read this thing called the "sermon on the mount"? What part of "judge not lest ye be judged" is beyond your comprehension?

Since you are an authority on the Bible, and obviously adhere to its teachings (re: your citation of the Sermon on the Mount), perhaps you will remember Jesus' words "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come to fulfill them".
You, and so many others like you, parse whatever words you find that you think you can use to belittle believers. If you were worth your salt as a non-believer you would do enough background not to be tripped up by your own attempts at sophistry. It is a frequent mistake that amatuers make in trying to apply Jesus' teachings on personal salvation to societal interactions- just ain't in there. (except maybe Luke 22:36)

On my own account, I'll say that I'm sort of sad that this group explicitly excludes me from membership. I'm against the death penalty for several reasons that look pretty good to me, but I'm not a "person of faith." Darn!
