Get A Clue

Those who prey on children deserve the harshest punishment the law allows.
Those who pray for children have the right idea, but I suggest action will always trump wishful thinking.

I find it interesting that this teacher's religion prescribes him being stoned to death for what he did. I reckon he got a lot better deal from America than he would have from God.

I take your point, nemo, and I agree with Get a Clue that this guy deserves whatever punishment the law allows. But even before the Christian era, and certainly as reflected in the Talmud, capital punishment in general and stoning in particular had become virtually nonexistent in Judaism. The passages in the Torah that mentioned stoning and similar punishments were viewed by the early rabbis as allegorical rather than precise sentences. So for what it's worth, the ex-rabbi's religion does not actually prescribe stoning for his crime.

I know -- I was simply aiming a jab at the fundamentalists who view legal matters in such simplistic terms as to be come ridiculous. The true core of the matter is that this man betrayed a very basic trust and it's a very good thing that he has apparently left the field of teaching. His actions prove he wasn't suited for it.

Oh, fair enough. Sorry about that. No disagreement from me.
