Guilford County farmer and insurance professional Mike Causey is taking another run at the race for insurance commissioner.
The post is one of 10 statewide-elected positions in North Carolina, along with the governor, attorney general and the like.
Causey is a Republican. The sitting insurance commissioner, Wayne Goodwin, has said he will stand for re-election.
Causey formally kicked off his campaign in Dare County this morning. From a news release:
"I am running for insurance commissioner because people are hurting from high insurance costs and lack of response from the Department of Insurance. We must create a free market insurance system and get people some relief from high insurance premiums," Causey said.
"People are frustrated and fed up with the insurance problems in this state; I will address that issue by creating a healthy insurance climate for insurers, attract more insurers as well as restructure a more 'user-friendly' and accessible insurance department" he said.
"I will make sure that the people of North Carolina are well-served by the Department of Insurance; It will be a new insurance day in North Carolina when the voters help me win this race, " Causey remarked.
Causey ran and lost three times against long-time longtime insurance commissioner Jim Long in 1992, 1996 and 2000. He also ran for state Senate in 2002, losing to Katie Dorsett.
