Start the new year on the run

Recycling to move back to the top of the blog:

Details on two events in the area that can help get your new year started:

RUNNING OF THE LIGHTS, midnight Saturday night: The Running of the Lights, a 5.5K race that will start as the clock strikes midnight, will give runners a chance to enjoy the Tanglewood Festival of Lights in Clemmons. The $30 entry fee includes a long-sleeved technical shirt, and runners can warm up with hot chocolate at the finish line. Online registration is open until midweek, and on-site registration is possible, if the field isn't full, during packet pickup at Fleet Feet Sports, 50-G Miller St., Winston-Salem, from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday or at Tanglewood Park, 4016 Clemmons Road, Clemmons, from 10 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

The 5.5K will be preceded, at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, by the Running of the Lights Fun Run. The entry fee for the 1.75-mile run-walk is $15, and shirts are not included. Online registration closes at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

For the 5.5K or the Fun Run, each participant will be required to bring three cans of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.

RESOLUTION RUN, 10 a.m. Sunday: Greensboro's fourth annual Resolution Run 5K is moving to Bryan Park. There is no entry fee, but runners are being asked to contribute 10 canned food items that will go to Greensboro Urban Ministry.

If you want a T-shirt, the cost is $5. And you'll need to register online.
