This morning, I'm worried about a lot of things. I dropped Greta off at the vet this morning so she could have a growth removed from her ear. After a quick check-up yesterday, we decided to have it removed and tested. Our vet, Dr. Beagle, said she thinks it's worth testing because of Greta's breed. She's part boxer. And boxers are prone to get cancer.
I wanted to drop her off this morning and be the last one she saw before she was put under for this procedure. But before I could even worry about Greta, I had to worry about Cassie. She has major separation anxiety when it comes to her big sister, Greta. And what did I have to do? Separate them.
Greta couldn't eat this morning before her procedure, so I had to figure out how to feed Cassie without Greta seeing it. Right before we left, I put Greta in the car. As I closed the door on Cassie, she started scratching at the door and crying. I got Greta in the car and quickly went back inside to feed Cassie. I poured her food in one bowl, and put water in the other -- Greta's food bowl. She wouldn't eat. She just looked at me. When I closed the door on her again, she was just looking at me, confused.
When I arrived at the vet's office, they took her back quickly as I filled out a consent form. I got in a quick "Bye, baby" before she was behind a closed door. Then I had to read this form. I had to give my permission for them to use anesthesia, and use CPR and life-saving measures if necessary. And listed at the top of the form as the procedure being performed was "mass removal." For some reason that hit me hard. It could be absolutely nothing. But it could be something very serious.
When I was getting ready to leave, the surgeon tech said to me, "We'll take good care of her." And I almost started crying. I said, "She's my first baby," and then had to walk away before I turned into a big mess.
Now, I wait for a phone call to tell me Greta is doing OK. And I wonder what kind of mess Cassie will have made at home alone.
