We've made an appointment at the vet for Greta this week. She has a growth on her ear that we're worried about. It's been there for more than a year, but just recently has gotten larger.
When we first noticed it, we had the vet check it out. She suggested first trying to freeze it off using wart remover. That's easier said than done on this dog. We applied the ointment nightly and it burned the hairs around the spot. But not the spot itself. Greta hated it.
A few months later the vet looked at it again and said it could be removed and tested to see if it was cancerous. That, of course, would cost hundreds of dollars that we didn't readily have. She said for the time being we could keep an eye on it and if it didn't change, there probably wasn't anything to worry about it.
But we've noticed the past few weeks that it's grown larger. And fellow blogger Margaret Wimmer noticed it right away after visiting with the dogs a few weeks ago.
So we've decided maybe it's time to have it removed and tested. Greta has an appointment with our vet this week to see what she thinks. I'm trying not to worry. I hope it is nothing, and that our waiting to do anything about it hasn't caused any irreversible damage.
Greta is and always will be my first baby.
