Thinking Out Loud

Ann Coulter for gay rights?

It seems more than a little ironic that Ann Coulter, who once used a homophobic slur to refer to John Edwards, has been castigated by other conservatives for accepting a speaking invitation from a GOP gay group.

Coutler and WorldNetDaily are having an escalating war of words over her participation in a GOP gathering conspicuously called Homocon.

WND: Coulter is implicitly endorsing gay marriage by attending.

Coulter: WND can take a flying leap (I'm paraphrasing).

"These are fake Christians trying to get publicity," Coulter said on Fox News/

There is some poetic justice in all this somewhere.

How wonderful it must be to be Ann Coulter, making good money by ticking off all the right people. And doing it with a smile, and looking good while doing it, which ticks them off even more. You go, girl.

Keep up the good work Ann, any time you have the far left liberals, writhing about you, the angels in heaven are singing!
I think it's great, we have wonderful, pretty women like Palin and you that love America.
Not what is a liberal like you doing watching Fox News?
Go back to MSMBC before you confuse me!
If you are not watching their viewership goes down by 5%.

I think you guys may be missing the point; her war is with conservatives in this case.

Ann's 'wars' are simply with her detractors. Those detractors are most often loony leftists, but she will mix it up with anyone. And have fun and make money while doing it. I have to admire her for that. She and Rush are obviously having a great time doing what they do. That makes their critics even more angry and hateful. Meanwhile, everyone on the left is so angry ("This country is downright mean" Michelle Obama)

I think that may be part of the left's hatred of Sarah Palin--she always has a smile on her face, even when talking about Dear Leader's lack of testicular fortitude.

If it's not the mainstream, leftwing media taking potshots at Ann Coulter, it's some other group of wackos. Why can't they all just leave Ann alone?

"LEAVE ANN ALONE!!!! *sob*"
Sorry, has that internet meme passed its prime? That's OK. So has Ann Coulter.

Sawdust

I think Ann enjoys the potshots, they always give her the chance to out-reason her attackers. And they despise her for that.

Ann Coulter is taking the Oscar Wilde comment to heart: "There is only one thing worse than being talked about and that is NOT being talked about".

Looks to me like it has worked out pretty well for her. Does anyone know how much she earns? Has to be a lot. I know that thinking worked out very well for Rush, money-wise. I can understand why the left despise people like Rush and Ann and Sarah. They are clearly enjoying their lives and making a lot of money while bringing a smile to my face, and to the faces of a growing number of Americans.

Speaking of Rush, Walter Williams is guest host today. Thomas Sowell will be his guest second hour, talking about his new book. NRO had Sowell last week on Uncommon Knowledge. Sowell and Williams. Too bad that most of black America listens to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Sowell is certainly one of the great thinkers of our day.

Here's the link for the UC interview. Worth a listen. Sowell drives the left crazy because they can't call him a racist. http://tv.nationalreview.com/uncommonknowledge/

On Sowell, I can't say I'm a fan. I don't consider him that deep a thinker; I can predict most of his talking points before reading him.
But many readers like him.

Sawdust

I don't suppose that has anything to do with his conservative stance, does it? Care to compare your accomplishments with his, since you apparently consider yourself a deeper thinker? I didn't think so.

Allen Johnson

August 24, 2010 - 4:50 pm EDT

It's not his conservatism. He just doesn't make me think like, say, a Kathleen Parker, a David Brooks, a Charles Krauthammer or a John Hood does.

Gotta agree on this one. Sowell is the anti-Krugman: same talking-points-from-an-economist shtick, different politics.

Christopher Rees

His reasoning is predictable because it is consistent with his values.

He's not a feminist - but pro-Clinton. He's not anti-religion, except when the religion is Islam.... he's consistent. And he expounds the cause of the Right intelligentlty and lucidly.

What's not to like? He is leagues better than that dreadful Pitts fellow, who is one of those guys who, if you've read one of his colimns, you've read them all. Such a Johnny-One-Note. And such a sad racist.
I hope he gets better, poor chap.

You could be right. But I personally prefer columnists who occasionally surprise me, and do so in a well-argued, intellectually honest manner.

Christopher Rees

Ha! Ha! Ha! This is really funny! I also like the pundits who shake me up. I want the newspaper's editorial and op-ed pieces to generate , um, cognitive dissonance, I believe they call it (i.e. make one think).

Perhaps you should replace Sowell with Walter Williams. Now there's a guy who could shatter people's preconceptions (provided they're willing to think)!

Cheers! (PS When is that get-together for us all, that you promised last year?).

Are you asking about my stew? If so, sometime on October or November. Not sure where the question was directed.

Allen Johnson

August 24, 2010 - 12:38 pm EDT

She is more of an act than a serious pundit. She probably is relishing the attention and the boost to book sales.

Gymnaseum

August 24, 2010 - 9:31 pm EDT

No one who answers to the term "pundit" should ever be taken seriously.
