Pay to play?

Charlotte is asking student athletes to pay as much as 100 bucks to play sports this year due to budget cuts. No one even mentioned that here, but next year by all accounts will set some new precedents should budget cuts come as expected.

Should kids have to play schools sports? Is sacrificing volleyball worth a few new computers?

NC schools and universities mission is education, not sports.
The schools and universities should get rid of all coaches and sports teams and concentrate on academics.

Sports, music, and the arts are essential in education.
Education is not just academia..
The Greeks believed one must be "Sound in Body and Sound in Mind." to be completely educated.
I do not want any child of mine sitting a desk using a computer 8 hours a day.
I want activity, music, creativity, socialization, and academia.
Sports bring in money, excitement, achievement, health, school and community spirit.
No, they absolutely should not be charged!

Most schools charge what they call "fair share" to play in the schools band. Anything from 130 to 300 bucks per student depending on the school.
There should also be some sort of charge for sports.

Yes, they should, but raise money somehow for helping the less privileged pay.
