Crime Stoppers golf tournament sells out

Golf tournament to benefit Crime Stoppers sells out

GREENSBORO — The 18th Annual Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers Golf Tournament will take place Monday at Forest Oaks Country Club.

Apparently the tournament is a sellout, and that's a good thing. This golf tournament is the largest fundraiser for the program, which only works off donations.

Coordinator Rebecca "Becky" Fallon said the tournament reached its 32-team limit with 128 players in total, according to the Crime Stoppers website.

The Crime Stoppers program encourages citizens to call 373-1000 and provide information on crimes and criminal activity anonymously . Valid tips that result in the arrest of an individual are eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

Crime Stoppers is not funded by citizens' tax dollars, police said. Donations must come from private sources.

Rockingham deputy named regional school resource officer representative

WENTWORTH — Sgt. Shane Woodall, a student resource officer at McMichael High in Mayodan, was named the Region 5 representative for the North Carolina Association of Student Resource Officers.

The region includes 10 counties, including Rockingham, Guilford, Alamance and Randolph counties.

The association is a non-profit organization of law enforcement officers and school officials who work to ensure safe learning environments throughout North Carolina schools. The association has about 350 members and eight regions.

Woodall will communicate monthly with other members and serve as the liaison between officers and the board of directors for a two-year term. He has been with the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office since 1999.

Page heads state sheriffs' association

Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page became the president of the N.C. Sheriffs' Association this month. He replaced Sheriff James Knight of Edgecombe County.

The association, the professional organization of the state's 100 sheriffs, works to strengthen the law enforcement services they provide to North Carolina residents.
