Routes: Breakfast at Mimi's, N.C. Marathon in Greensboro

Brian McDonald, a Greensboro endurance runner and a Running Shorts groupie, sends along suggestions for a couple of routes he likes to run.

BREAKFAST AT MIMI'S

"This 10-mile route is perhaps one of my favorites: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3503360. I call it "Breakfast at Mimi's," since when you're done, you can just walk in and have breakfast.

"The route takes you through the Arboretum, Lindley Park, Fisher Park and the Latham Park-Lake Daniel greenways. (Wife) Marianne and I like to run this from downtown going clockwise. So not only you can start and finish at almost any point along this route, it's also reversible. :)

"I have also created two three-mile add-on loops for those wanting to add more distance and hills. One takes you up Northwood: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3888529 and the other has you rambling up or down Sunset, whichever direction you prefer: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3503372. If you set up your water stop near the entrance to Latham Park, you can hit it twice during the run."

NORTH CAROLINA MARATHON

"A couple of years ago, when they announced the new routes for the 2009 North Carolina Marathon, I mapped the course. Then the marathon was moved to High Point. So here is the original, never-run Greensboro course with a start-finish from Spencer Love: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3814787 It's quite hilly and includes a three-quarter-mile climb up Bluff Run, but is a pretty well-shaded course. The only drawback is there is about 200 yards without sidewalks on Pisgah Church Road."
