Age: 39.
Home: Madison.
How she qualified: 3:44:02, Chicago Marathon.
Boston experience: First race.
Official time: 3:41:47.
How it went: Surprisingly well, she says, adding that her time was a personal record. Harris used the Furman FIRST training plan (“run less, run faster”). Despite achieving a time that qualifies her to return in 2011, Harris says she won’t.
Adrenaline rush: Finishing Heartbreak Hill, about mile 21, and seeing her husband, Blair. “When I finished Heartbreak, I was still dead on my pace (8:23).”
Moment of panic: None Monday, but Harris battled negative thoughts last week, fearing she hadn’t trained enough on hills. “I was convinced I was going to tank in this marathon.”
What she’s saying: “Heartbreak wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I expected it to be. I wasn ‘t even sure I was on it.” — describing a famous hill.
What’s next? Harris will focus on races in our area with her friends.
