Steve Arnold won't seek re-election.
Now there's an interesting headline.
His decision probably was in the best interests of all concerned.
Arnold has had more than his share of legal and business problems.
Also, his commissioners seat had seemed to bore him at times in recent years.
Then he appeared to rediscover his passion in his unlikely but solid alliance with Skip Alston.
With Alston as chairman and Arnold as vice chairman, the two reshaped county government pretty much by bulldozing it. Even though some good may have come from all the carnage, this was not one of local government's finest moments.
Good time to hang it up.
It'll be interesting to see how his departure affects the balance of power among the commissioners.
