Low-cost spay and neuter in the Triad

Sunday's A1 story on animal cruelty touched a nerve with people, as you can see by the more than 50 comments. One topic continually discussed in the comments was low-cost spaying and neutering of pets. Here are some options for spaying and neutering your pets in the Triad.

  • The Humane Society of the Piedmont's Planned Pethood Spay & Neuter Clinic, located at 4527 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, 299-3999. Surgery is scheduled by appointment only, Monday through Friday. The cost for a female dog is $70, a male dog is $60, a female cat is $55 and a male cat is $40. Call the Humane Society of the Piedmont at 299-3060 for further financial assistance.
  • Greensboro Piedmont Communities Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic, 1910 N. Church St, Suite E, Greensboro, 333-5336.
  • Spay Neuter Clinic, 2780 W. Mountain St., Kernersville, 723-7550.
  • Forsyth Humane Society, 61 Miller St., Winston-Salem, 721-1303. Financial assistance available.

  • The SPCA of the Triad does free feral cat spay/neuter clinics every Tuesday at its center in Greenboro. Call 375-3222 to set up an appointment. The clinics are not for domesticated pets, only for feral cats and kittens. www.triadspca.org
  • Humane Society of Alamance County has a low cost spay/neuter program. www.hsaconline.org
  • Feral Cat Assistance Program (FCAP) is a Trap, Neuter, Release program. The mission of FCAP is to help people who are caring for feral cats by feeding and providing shelter for these abandoned animals. However, they are not in a position to have the cats spayed or neutered. FCAP also has an adoption program for kittens and adult cats that have been socialized and are now able to be placed in forever loving homes. For more infromation please call 378-0878 and choose line 3 when promted to make a choice
  • The Spay and Neuter Clinic of Alamance County is now open at 1919 South Church St, Burlington. A division of Burlington Animal Services, the clinic provides low-cost spay and neuter surgery for dogs and cats. For more information, call 570-6767.
