City Council acts!

The new City Council has just been sworn in. This is a council whose new members campaigned on eliminating political bickering. Now the members are debating whether to overturn the old council's action that was approved two hours ago.

This new council is going to be good for the news business.

Update: Watch it here, beginning at 3 hours and 50 minutes. Council members seem surprised that the motion to reconsider the aquatic center is made at what they call a largely ceremonial meeting. Then they debate how to act on the motion for 30 minutes.

Mayor Knight must have left his wallet-size Robert's Rules of Order at home tonight, because tonight's meeting was out of control. Literally. And here I was thinking that he would usher in order. We were duped!

I had the same thought, but think we need to cut the new mayor some slack. It was just his first meeting, and he looked as surprised by the motion as anyone. Let's assume he learned a bit from his first meeting with the gavel.

If the "old" Council had acted on the Swim Center in a regularly scheduled meeting, I would have not had any issues with that. However, they did call a SPECIAL meeting to consider this one subject. I think that this type of action should be overturned immediately.

At that point, the NEW council should review the entire matter and take what ever action that they agree upon.

Help me out on that one, Don. What's the difference between meeting in the special session and any action the old council took in its meeting, say, last week?

The News and Record has failed to provide the citizens of Greensboro with accurate information regarding this project. Where has investigative and through reporting gone. The NR has failed to provide the facts and have fuel much public criticism for the project with inaccuracies and deliberate misrepresentation. The public trust was breach.

A Special Meeting called specifically to spend extra money the last day in office is the worse case of Local LAME DUCK that I have heard. Unfortunately, it now appears that even local politicians are now doing it. It's bad enough that the Congress and President have nearly 2 months to do their LAME DUCK dance.
