Thinking Out Loud

A twisted Tiger tale

Is the strange, constantly evolving narrative of Tiger Woods'  recent fender bender national news?

Does anyone care?

Should anyone care?

Does Woods have any obligation to come clean beyond an explanation that sounds more than a little bit fantastic?

All of those questions are debatable.

But if I were Tiger, I think I'd come clean. Fast.  The longer he stonewalls, the hungrier the 24/7 cable news beast will become for details, and it will obtain them by any means necessary.

Jimi Izrael's take.

Depends on whether he was having an affair. It seems pretty clear at this point that his wife went bonkers with a 7-iron, and if she was reacting to incorrect tabloid rumors, then I'd say leave it alone: it's a private matter than will eventually die from lack of fuel. But if that tabloid has further information that will come out eventually, admit it and take your medicine. The problem with that, of course, is that taking your medicine means that your wife will take her medicine as well, potentially including domestic abuse charges. He'll have a hard time coming clean without getting his wife muddy.

That's true, depending on whether any of what we've heard thus far is factual.

I just think of all the stonewalling John Edwards did on his affair and where it got him.

But doesn't a golfer have a larger sphere of privacy than a politician? It doesn't affect Tiger's scorecard if we trust him or not. Ultimately, I don't think it's my business if a golfer or actor cheats on his wife. I do think it's my business if it's a presidential candidate.

On the other hand, I strongly believe in telling the truth (when appropriate).

Like Clinton and Sanford!
The media will make hay of this for a long time.
If he and missy is throwing golf balls at each other, so what! We have all been there!
If he had told exactly what happen, end of story.
I thought a gated community was private property!
So why the police?
