Christians urged to pray before Muslim prayer in Washington

Today's email chatter:

On the eve of the first Muslim prayer gathering on Capitol Hill, Christian leaders have called a national conference call to pray for the country tonight:

“It is critical that the church in America understands the times and what needs to be done now,” says Lou Engle, president of TheCall to Action.   “There is a great spiritual conflict with a rising tide of Muslim influence.  Our President has recently honored the Muslim holy days of prayer and fasting.  We advocate for understanding of this religion, but we must have spiritual discernment as to the spiritual dark powers that are being invoked into our nation."

Sigh.

I know that Christians believe that God only listens to them, but you'd think they could at least afford Muslims the same deference in public gatherings that they demand for themselves. I think someone they consider rather important advised them to do that something like 2000 years ago. Apparently, the lesson STILL hasn't gotten through...

Christians dont think God cant hear other prayers , Gods Word says he wont listen to the prayers of the unsaved , which we get saved through the name of Jesus.

I could get my underwear in a bunch, but since all prayers are a wasted effort, I'll be happy that for a least a few moments Muslims and Christians will be too busy praying to actually kill someone else over whose god is better.

I would tend to agree... except that prayer tends to be a reflector and enhancer of personal attitudes. Urging people to pray about the dark, evil other people will only deepen the resentment and hostility that are already being felt. I consider that a step away from peaceful coexistence.

Muslim, Christian, whatever - aren't ALL religious beliefs self-serving, ridiculous, and just plain silly -

Funny that a lot of religious people feel the same way about the opinion you just expressed. If you're interested in persuading them to believe as you do, instead of gloating about how stupid they are, maybe you need to turn down the arrogance a bit. If you just want to sneer, then you'll never know the joy that can be found in experiencing, rather than just theorizing about, God's Presence. That may be fine with you, and I do not judge that choice; but scorning others because they share that experience doesn't make you a better person; it just makes you a better despiser of others. And isn't that the sort of attitude you find "self-serving, ridiculous, and just plain silly"?

The only spiritual darkness I see in this situation is the attitude that only one religious point of view has the Truth and all the others wallow in darkness, delusion, and ignorance. This attitude is spiritual darkness whether Christians, Muslims, or atheists believe it.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt from three different denominations, Catholic, Protestant, and Charismatic; so I'm covered. You might be more persuasive (assuming you want to persuade anyone of something other than how smug you are at the thought of those who don't agree with you being tortured throughout eternity) by talking about things you know something about. However many those subjects might be. You might be surprised at how many prostitutes, tax collectors, and other sinners get into heaven before you. At any rate, your posts indicate that you have chosen the wrong name. Are you sure it shouldn't be Boanerges?

Even as a secular non-religious person, I am glad somepeople choose to show fellow-feeling and pray for mutual peace and understanding. Instead, this group seems intent on some sort of religious prayer one-upsmanship. Others I have heard (Michael Savage) bewail that Muslims do a better job praying more often and more intensely...so the explanation for the difficulties Christians are having with certain Muslim believers is chalked up to not enough time on one's knees.

There is but one God , his name is Jesus. It is SAD to see all people who were made in the image of God, for God desired you , and you dont believe in him , but instead are quick to worship other Gods , who your God made.God loves the sinner , just not the sin , hes presence is to holy to look upon darkness.Thats why when Jesus died on the Cross he had to turn away because at the moment Jesus took all our sins upon him , so God dosent hear prayers of any one who has not repented , or washed by the blood of Jesus. This is not the worlds , or christians belief its Gods, its in his word. Koran is not from God there book is so diffrent from the Word of God, It talks about killing christians and jews. Wake up its this book that tells them to hate people who believe in Jesus or God. They try to put that demonic religion unto America, change our true God for false ones, and the world wonders why christians get up set, because we love and obey God, WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE REAL GOD , and he is real , hes not evil but a God who loves his children. I pray that those who deny him , will have a true incounter with the LIVING GOD . BLESS YOU ALL .
