'Don't wait to get married'

If Christians aren't waiting until marriage to have sex — and statistics show they aren't — Mark Regnerus says he's found the perfect solution: They should just get married right after high school.

Well, it seems wrong-headed to me. Getting married at the age of 17 or 18 is pretty risky. I know of a lot of first marriages that ended in divorce, and that really ought not to have happened in the first place. And of course, those marriages that break up involved children.

The church's desire to control the sex lives of members probably made sense in a bygone era. In today's society, its advice seems to be tending toward less family stability and happiness, rather than more.
