News & Record and Pet Shop readers, are you ready for a little competition? Friendly competition, that is.

The News & Record is teaming up with Fox 8 for a competition to see which staffer has the cutest dog: News & Record page designer Andrea Martin (that's me!) or Fox 8 reporter Roxanna Haynes.

The competition between my boxer mix Greta and Roxanna's miniature schnauzer Layla is official, taking place online with All American Pet Brands’ Cutest Dog Competition. Between now and Oct. 24, a weekly winner is chosen by you, the public. Votes are re-set to zero on Sunday. A new winner is chosen each week, and is eligible for $500. You'll have to register your e-mail address if you've never voted before. You may vote once a day.

Greta and Layla need your votes! (Read: Greta needs your votes). Each Monday we’ll update you on their progress.

$1 million in prizes is on the line at the end of the contest. In the end, the winner gets bragging rights, but the real winner is the Guilford County Animal Shelter. If either Greta or Layla wins any cash prizes, we’ll donate the money to the shelter.
