Burned puppy found in park

Ryan Seals wrote this story this afternoon: http://www.news-record.com/content/2009/08/21/article/puppy_found_burned_at_greensboro_park

It's hard to read it without getting angry. A puppy was found in Greenfield Park, just south of the city, Thursday morning. She had been burned on her head, back, stomach, tail and legs. Her ears were burned off. Her jaw was broken. Based on the development of maggots, officials figure she was left to suffer for two weeks. Animal Control officials are looking for clues as to who tortured her.

Meanwhile, she's on pain medication and facing a long recovery. If you want to help, donations can be made to: United Animal Coalition; P.O. Box 8;  Jamestown, N.C. 27282  or by stopping by the shelter at 4525 W. Wendover Ave.

I read this story earlier today online and my heart was immediately broken. It is beyond my comprehension as to what makes people do such things or even THINK or START to do something this cruel and actually be able to go through with it. It makes my stomach turn. I wish this puppy the VERY best and know that it's survival means there is a very special purpose out there for this baby. Please, please donate to help.. if you do not have the money yourself, start a fundraiser at work or a penny drive. Every dollar will help. In addition, become an advocate for animals... they have no voice - we must be their voice.

I pray for the speedy recovery of this puppy and for justice to be served to the cruel person(s) involved.

Before I went to bed I had to get online to see if we had any new details about this case. This just hurts my heart to hear about things like this. I just don't even know what to say to something like this, just truly speechless. I'm pray for this poor puppy.

Does anyone know what the estimated costs are? Myself and several others would like to donate.

I also just read on another news website that the name given to her was "Ember." Is it just me or does anyone else think this name is a little distasteful? I feel that it is too closely related to the awful tragedy she was left to endure.

SJELG07 an ember is a glow of life in a dying fire. The name Ember for this puppy was a flicker of life for a puppy that had been set on fire and left for dead. The people who named her probably felt that although charded and burned there was still hope because there was still a flicker of light in the dark place she was in. I think it is a great name. It is like a campfire if you still see a few embers glowing than there is still life in the fire. There was still life in this puppy. Thank you to the shelter for seeing that flicker and saving her.

Ember's name has been changed to Susie now. She is continuing to do very well.
