Junior Olympics: Dougherty third, Wynn eighth

Two Greensboro Pacesetters turned in strong performances in the 2,000-meter steeplechase Tuesday at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships at A&T's Irwin Belk Track.

Frances Dougherty, a former Greensboro Day student who will attend the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, took third place in the girls 17-18 division in 7:43.95. Grimsley senior Tess Wynn was eighth in 8:05.36.

The Greensboro Blazers' Kevin Rice, in the boys 17-18 division of the 2,000-meter steeplechase, took 13th in 6:50.61. Smith is a cross country and track athlete at Smith.

Ethan Morris of the Greensboro Champions stands 13th of 19 in the decathlon for the boys 15-16 division. Competition continues today.
