Do you keep Burckley on?

Idle thoughts on a gray day or, my impression of Larry King:

If you were running for City Council and Bill Burckley were your political counselor, would you distance yourself from him now?

Does his behavior at the City Council meeting reflect on his candidates, rightly or wrongly?

Is there any political significance in the fact that three of the incumbent council members he is representing has done work for -- Zack Matheny, Mary Rakestraw and Trudy Wade -- all voted against the council's expression of regret for the 1979 shootings?

Doesn't this add to the perception that the City Council has become the county commissioners?

Whatever. It makes for good news stories in that perverse way journalists define good.

Thursday update: I'm told I am mistaken when I said Burckley is representing Mary Rakestraw. He has provided mailing and statistical services for her, but he doesn't represent her. Let's assume that's true for the other two candidates mentioned above.

Allen Johnson weighs in here. More from Roch Smith.

I don't think there is a connection between those council members voting against the expression of regret and him being their political counselor. His behavior was juvenile and they should reconsider working with him if this continues. If that expression of regret results in any legal action against the city the council members who voted for it should be tarred and feathered.

The Rhino had some interesting info on this story today John. I think it was mentioned that he may have smelled of alcohol.I wish I could see video of the actual event so I could judge for myself if he deserved to be arrested.I believe he is claiming it's a free speech issue now.

Thanks, Tim. Yes, we had the same information but chose not to print it because, well, saying it puts in the reader's mind that he had been drinking and who knows whether he actually was? Seems unfair to Burckley.
