Green unveils regional plan

Mo Green has released his proposal for regionalization. See the presentation and proposed regions here. The list of regions, the schools in them and maps are near the end.

I should not "proposed." There were some, Green and board chairman Alan Duncan, Deena Hayes and Paul Daniels, who felt Green should have the authority to choose how to divide the county up.

A reminder, this would be creating geographical regions led by regional superintendents. This should have no impact on what schools your children go to.

didn't watch board meeting (imported)

I didn't see the board meeting and hear the discussions. The letter that accompanied the powerpoint indicated that the 4th option was new and as a result of board suggestions. Can anyone fill me in on the reasonings for and against the various options? It seems to me we just get out the pencil and start drawing some lines and try to keep the numbers equal. Is it more complex than that?

There are probably some who want to stick all of High Point in the same region - THAT would be a huge mistake.

Where has the regional concept succeeded? It is not obvious to me that Charlotte is a lot better off by regionlization. Why does MO determine what areas need improvement and work on those. We are being ask to buy a pig in the polk. We do not know whether Mo will even be here for 4 years. He seems not very interested in getting input from Alan and Darlence and Nancy. The best progress is made in a collegial environment. He seems to prefer the one-man show. His employees are not about to oppose his plans. If they do, they will be out. The only people that could help is would be the BOE. The BOE is is charge of education in Guilford Co. He may not like it, but that is the fact.

Does option iV mean that some kids from Smith could get redictricted to Ragsdale or Western?

Is this redistricting in disguise?

It certainly looks possible. I think all Guilford County parent should watch out for this one. Maybe someone should organise something for a possible protest.

Actually we are moving/regionalizing nothing.

We are simply changing the reporting structure
on paper.

Based on what?

That is the question.

Why will this deliver better educating in the
class room? Thats what the measurements are.
or should be. That seems to mean EOC improvement. I don't know if that is the correct measure but as a country we seem to have settled on that. Now until that changes thats the goal. Everything else is fluff.

How does this effect for instance how English is taught and the results we will get..

The curriculum is all the same?

The comment is more "responsive.
to parents needs",

Thats ridiculous.
What needs?

We are suppose to educate the kids.

I could understand if this was a police or fire department.( Response time)

The whole purpose of this is for Mr Green to have a
reporting structure he can deal with. Nothing else.

I mean how much autonomy will each superintendent have

Buss schedules, School hours, Snow closings,
Janitorial service, Text books,Maintenance.
Technology, Teaching methods
What?.
I see them simply as a conduit for Mr. Green to get
information. Nothing else. And that may be good.

Again what will change at the class room level to increase EOC performance ( our present measure of education ).Why not simply call these people
staff trouble shooters.

Given they will have limited authority what skills is Mr Green looking for.

If the whole purpose of this is so that parents have an easier time dealing with the structure this is over kill. We have taken our eye off the prize.

Better educated kids

This is a tangent, but I wonder if anyone else had heard about this.

I know this is off track but did you hear that Eastern High School was evacuated yesterday due to a bomb threat? The kids sat on the bleachers for a couple of hours and weren't given any further information.

Actually, both Eastern High and Eastern Middle received bomb threats and both schools were evacuated while the Sheriff's Department conducted searches of both facilities. Students were out of the buildings for approximately one hour. Parents were notified of the evacuation and again when it was clear to reenter the buildings. Some students were late receiving lunch but school resumed in a normal manner.

EOC ( Last years report cards)

Dudley Eastern Smith

Algb 1 51% 48% 40%

Algb 2 34% 57% 62%

Now

After all the Power Point reorganization.

What will be done differently in these class rooms?

Surely we have worked on this for years.
What processes, procedures , methods etc do we plan to put in place in these classes rooms

From Reorganization plan: ( Ms Carrs Power Point)

Place resources closer to the schools
Improve central administration services
Enhance responsiveness to stakeholders

What will actually be done in the class room?

This is PR/ Propaganda. What will happen at the teacher student interface? Period
Grier was working on this for what eight years.
The system kept telling us they were doing a great job.
We must have believed them we kept giving Grier raises.
He quit for better pastures we did not fire him.

Now we need to reorganize. Too fix what non problems.
The system WEB pages keep saying how great we are doing.

None of this can pass a sanity test.

Nice professional multicolored org charts though.

Madhof needed these,

David,

I completely agree with you. Grier confused the board for eight years and got them to increase his salary many times during that time.
Meanwhile thousands of kids at our low performing schools failed.

Its almost a crime.

What am I missing?

If each sub group is organized the same, and the kids
go to the same schools, the only difference is the number of schools or students in each region.

What difference dies this make in the greater scheme of things. It is just lines on a map. No? Yes?

Someone explain this to me

Per haps Ms Carr can explain this from an Organizational Structures analysis point of view.
