Well, whaddya know: This week's WITW is the World's Largest Highboy:

The things you see in and around High Point ...One person knew that this piece of oversized furniture s at the Furnitureland South showroom off of Business 85. It's Susan Gunter-Steed of Reidsville, who works in Greensboro and drives by Furnitureland South on the way to her doctor in High Point. Says Susan: "I always look for unique and different sights no matter where my travels take me. The highboy dresser and the big chair in Lexington have always been a favorite of mine."

Technically, the WLH is in Jamestown, which means my description in Monday's post was semi-misleading. My exact words were "when I was coming back from an assignment in High Point." See why we don't award cash and fabulous prizes for this thing?

Anyway, back to the WLH. According to the official company propaganda, the highboy was built as part of the Mart building in 1999. It's about 80 feet tall or so (the Mart building is four stories), and it's twice as tall as the Big Bureau in downtown High Point. Roadside America has more on both.

The only reason I found it was because I needed more coffee and the road sign promised a Starbucks. So I stopped. Don't be fooled by the gate and the guard shack -- there's a Starbucks in there with somewhat irregular hours (they're not open nights or on Sunday) and a fireplace (!). And if you need to stretch your legs, you can always browse the furniture - all 28 bazillion square feet of it.
