Thank goodness Darlene was re-elected.

I wish her opponent, Mike Stone, had run at-large.

I'm very disappointed in Alexander's win. She's a career (and retired) educrat - think Terry Grier.

Dot Kearns didn't get enough write-in votes to stay? Is this regime really over in about 45 days or so?

Anon, I'm cautious about Ms. Alexander. If I remember right part of her platform was no taxing authority for the School Board. Hopefully she remembers this statement. Dr. Childs was a career educator as well and that didn't work too well either sp I see your point in a couple of different directions.

For now I'll remain optimistic that she follows in the footsteps of Dr. Routh, another career educator currently on the Board, but I will not be surprised if the worst happens.

Say no to Dot (imported)

Mckinney accepted donations from Dot Kearns. In my book that is an endorsement and sent me running the opposite way. Next time, McKinney should choose his friends more carefully. Dotty lost him the election.

Did you read Alexander's responses to the News & Record's questions? She was clearly unknowledgeable about the issues.

I think she favors busing and McKinney doesn't.

That was enough for me.

Anon, I asked a McKinney supporter a direct question about bussing/neighborhood schools as I was walking into Early Voting at the Culler Center. I got a rather cloudy answer from this person as well. If he had been groomed by Dot he no doubt knows how to say one answer and do something else.

I worked with Darlene on her campaign and we had alot of help for great people. Thanks to all that voted for her and all that helped at the polls. We have 4 more years of great representation in District 3.

I too think that Mike Stone has some great ideas, and would have voted for him 'at large.' I hope he will still stay involved with local education issues.

I heard that people from all over the County turned up and polled for Darlene (even another School Board member). Thats a tribute for what kind of a Board memeber she is. I seriously doubt if any of the other Board members could muster the same support!

GO DARLENE!

Darlene had people from Gibsonville, High Point, Oak Ridge, Summerfield, Greensboro and Stokesdale and TWO BOE members! Not sure how much that made a difference with 40 percent of people early voting. Her totals remained the same from start to finish.

Her totals changed I thought. The percentages did not.

I was polling for Darlene. Several people came out and told me that they had voted for her as the day went by.

Of course I meant percentage, not totals... shouldn't post when I am tired

I don't understand why McKinney got the N&R endoresement. Was it because of the age of Alexander? Was it that they thought one at large seat belongs to High Point? Appreciate your thoughts.

Brian,

If you went to the Dot Kearns dinner tonight, please let us know how it went.

Debora,

Let's not forget poll workers from the Jamestown area.

We love Darlene too. She is indeed one very special board member! I know that the support from all areas of Guilford County made a difference.

I too hope that Mike Stone will considering running at-large. I did not vote for McKinney because he was hand picked by Dot. Had Dot announced sooner that she wasn't running, we might have had some better choices. I voted for Alexander as the lesser of two bad choices. I hope as Buck said that she will be another Nancy Routh but I have my doubts.

To end on a positive note..... the Dot regime is over! Most of the board member who voted for the High Point Choice Plan are gone! "Nuf said"

Well said above anon.

Dot Kearns leaving the School board is a reason for celebration. The sun shines on Guilford County at last!

I would say its similar to the end of the George Bush reign.

Both have caused a lot of damage.

Susan Mendenhall,
Dot Kearns,
Terry Grier...YES, Terry Grier!
Walter Childs,

Gone!

Continuing on a positive note:
I live in Whites Mill North High Point and our closest school is Southwest.

My children go there and they are taken by a Guilford County School bus!

Some people that read this may not understand the significance of this but.....

The above posted and ex-school Board members tried to take this right away from me and many others and they failed!

I too want to congratulate Darlene on her re-election. I know, like everyone else, that she's an excellent representative. Do we have some differences of opinion on school issues? Yes, but they are not things that prevent us from working together and moving forward.
I appreciate the kind words from those that wished I would have run At-Large. 20/20 hindsight says you're probably correct.
Don't look for me to disappear or disconnect from our schools. I've already offered my support and time to Darlene and the BOE in any capacity that I can be of help. I would encourage everyone to do the same.
