For the love of free

In the last item in this week's Savvy Shopper column, I shared a few fabulous freebies I enjoy and invited you to share yours.

And you did. I got this email from Susan who pointed to Walmart as a way to get samples and other goodies for free. "I sign up for about two or three items per day!" she said. "I've received free toilet paper, laundry detergent, headache medicine and more."

Here's how: Go to the Walmart home page at www.walmart.com and click on the "In stores now" button on the left-hand rail. Then choose "free samples" toward the middle of the page to search the store's offerings.

Thanks Susan for passing along that fab freebie. Any others?

In the column you also mention using the free 411 search that google provides. You can use your cell phone and send a text to 46645 (the word "googl") and enter in the body of the text anything you need a number for and you will get a text back with the address, phone number, etc. For example, if you are in Greensboro and you need the phone number for a restaurant, you text 46645 and in the body of the text write, "name of the restaurant" and "Greensboro NC". The message will come back within seconds with all the info you need!

Now that I didn't know. A lot of times, getting a text message is easier than finding a scrap of paper to write down a number. I'll have to remember that tip!
