In the melee of the holiday season, often it's the unsung heroes who go unnoticed - the nonprofit organizations that work endlessly to make life better for the less fortunate.
Each year, the News & Record asks local nonprofits to give us their wish lists, whether it is funding, provisions or volunteers. Here are this year's submissions:

Fleece for Friends, Inc.
2405 Retriever Lane
Greensboro, NC 27455
336-601-9101
srtaylor5789@triad.rr.com
Needed Items:
My organization makes fleece blankets for the homeless. Our blankets have been made by high school students at Wesleyan Christian Academy and Caldwell Academy. We want them to learn to give back to society. Plus ,it makes them aware that there are people who are homeless and out in the cold. They are eager to make the blankets because it makes them feel good that they are helping someone stay warm. We make the no-sew blankets out of 2 pieces of fleece. One piece is made out of black and the other piece is burgundy. Each blanket is 2 1/2 yards long and 48 to 50 inches wide. The reason we make them so big is because there are homeless children on the street as well. Parents can bundle them up in this blanket with them. I would be ever so grateful if someone could donate the fleece or money to buy fleece. My goal is that every homeless person in North Carolina would have one of these blankets. With all the foreclosures the number is sadly growing. These blankets are extremely warm with two layers of fleece. It breaks my heart to think there are actually people out there in the cold. Please help us provide more blankets for the homeless.

KinGap Services of North Carolina
614 E. Hamilton Ave.
High Point, NC 27262
336-289-4043
earlthepearl98@yahoo.com
Needed Items:
KinGap Services of North Carolina became a non-profit in June 2011. KinGap Services is the first Kinship Navigator Program in the state bridging the gap between grandparents, kinship caretakers, children and service providers. The state of North Carolina does not subsidize kinship care, therefore many relatives who take in relatives children receive very minimal assistance even though it's mandated by the courts to contact relatives first when children are removed from their homes. We agree the best interest of children is with relatives, when suitable, however, due to the limited services benefits and support, many kinship providers have found themselves not only having to give up dreams but their life savings to do the honorable thing. KinGap services of North Carolina will locate services, benefits and resources to assist this population and where there are none create them. Our office which will open December 1st is in need of computers and office machines, supplies and signage. For the families we assist: movie passes, skating, dining out cards, etc. things that our families cannot afford that others may take for granted. Any assistance in our endeavors will be greatly appreciated. Blessings, Sara Harper, founder KinGap Services of NC

Our Refugee clients are hard-working, dedicated, compassionate, and only want to make better lives for their families. MDA goals are to preserve the rich history and culture to strengthen the fraternal ties among all people. While MDA could use new computers, a shredder or other office equipment and supplies, we only request the basics to help with our client’s daily survival. MDA’s wish list consists of the following: Bags of rice, Ramen Noodles, canned goods (soups, Vienna sausages, sardines, fish, fruits, and vegetables), dried beans (black beans/pinto beans), fish sauce, shrimp/fish paste, bouillon cubes, juices (canned or bottled fruit juices), and toiletries (feminine products, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo & conditioners, bar soaps, hairbrushes, combs, and toilet paper).
